The Wolves

Werewolves exist—and always have. Ancient, resilient, and ferociously private, they’ve survived by hiding in plain sight, tucked into the quiet corners of society and the untouched stretches of wilderness. Their world is divided into five territories, each ruled by their own customs, families, and priorities—but all of them are bound by one law: the pack must endure.

Transformation

All werewolves have enhanced strength, speed, senses, and accelerated healing—even in human form. But not all are created equal.In human form, werewolves are indistinguishable from humans. No fuzzy ears, no tails. Just piercing eyes, unsettling calm, and a presence that makes you hold your breath without knowing why. Most humans who catch a glimpse of a massive fully shifted wolf, convince themselves it was a bear—or something worse they’re better off forgetting.

🌙 Alphas and Omegas can shift at will, though it’s never a painless process. Their transformations are muscle-splitting and bone-shifting, bodies reshaping into massive, four-legged wolves—nearly indistinguishable from wild wolves to the untrained human eye, save for their size and aura of something... wrong.🌙 Betas transform only during the full moon, but they’re just as dangerous in their own way. Think less "second class," more "silent threat." They lack dominance-based drives but make up for it in adaptability and numbers.🌙 Rogues are humans who survived what should’ve killed them—a bite or scratch from a werewolf. The first transformation is a brutal, burning thing. Most human bodies break under the strain before the healing factor can take hold.

Rogues & Exiles

🌙 Rogues are wild and feral. Shifting without control, driven by urges they don’t understand. No pack, no hierarchy, no one to teach them. Taking on the trait of the wolf they were bitten by, if they’re Alphas, the rut hits like a bomb. And if they catch a whiff of an Omega, the consequences are rarely survivable. These rogues are hunted or quietly put down in most territories. No one wants a feral Alpha prowling the edges of their land.🌙 Exiled wolves were born into the pack—and then cast out. Natural-born wolves who broke laws, challenged rank, or found weak and simply not good enough can be stripped of name, title, and safety. Once exiled, a wolf is no longer bound by pack law—and no longer protected by it.
Some of them go mad. Some thrive in the wilderness. And some plot their return, carving territory of their own with tooth and claw.🌙 The Central Territory is the neutral ground and only place where rogues and exiles are permitted to exist.
Some less conservative territories allows wolves outside the pack—natural-born or bitten—to remain within their territories, but are kept under careful watch and not allowed near the main compounds. Many flee immediately to the Central Territory to avoid being hunted and killed.

The Hierarchy & Reproduction

This isn’t just dominance and submission. In Lunar Reign, hierarchy is biological, social, and political—and no one escapes it. Alphas lead. Omegas carry legacy. Betas, though often overlooked, outnumber them all and hold the world together in ways few ever acknowledge.🌙 60% Betas – The backbone. Level-headed, adaptable, and powerful in their own right. They keep society functioning while rarely being the center of it.
🌙 35% Alphas – Dominant, instinct-driven, and varied in status. Not all lead, but all feel the pull to. Some command packs; others crumble under the weight of their own instincts.
🌙 5% Omegas – Rare, treasured, and often controlled. Their value lies in both legacy and desire—and in many territories, that makes them currency as much as kin.Omegas are often born once per generation per bloodline, if that. Most territories have only a handful of unbonded, viable Omegas at any given time. Alphas compete to claim them—through treaties, old alliances, or sheer dominance. Not every Alpha survives the competition. Many will never bond with an Omega.

Who Can Breed With Who?

In Lunar Reign, reproduction isn’t just a biological function—it’s instinctive, hormonal, and deeply tied to pack dynamics. At the heart of it are two key cycles: ruts and heats.

Heats & Ruts

🌙 Alphas experience ruts—intense periods of heightened aggression, need, and drive to claim and breed. These episodes happen roughly every three months, though proximity to an unbonded omega can trigger a spontaneous one.
🌙 Omegas, in contrast, go into heat every three months. It’s a vulnerable, overwhelming cycle where their body craves connection, comfort, and breeding.

Gocks & Knotting

Alpha anatomy includes a uniquely evolved phallic organ (often called a gock in underground slang). While it resembles a standard penis in most ways, it is biologically enhanced for knotting—a physical swelling that occurs during climax, locking partners together to increase the chances of successful breeding. Only Alphas possess this trait, making them the only designation capable of naturally impregnating Omegas and Betas. An Alpha will only knot when she smells Omega pheromones, or when she's in rut.Omegas are built to take knots. Their bodies are naturally lubricating and internally structured to accommodate knotting. During heat, their scent becomes irresistible to alphas, and both of their physiologies soften and swell to make mating both easier and more effective.

Fated Mates

The idea of fated mates—souls literally made for each other—is romantic, terrifying, and nearly extinct. In this era, most wolves go their entire lives without encountering one. But for the very, very few who do, the bond is soul-deep, immediate, and irreversible.
Still, that doesn’t stop anyone from hoping.

Scent Bonding

Scent bonding is the physical and chemical link formed when a werewolf grows emotionally, physically, or sexually attached to another. The more time they spend together—sleeping near, touching, scenting—the deeper the bond sinks into their bones.🌙 Omegas bond faster. They imprint on scent instinctively, often without meaning to.
🌙 Alphas hold harder. Once they’ve locked on, they don’t let go easily.
🌙 Deep bonding goes beyond choice—it alters behavior, instincts, even physiology.
🌙 Light bonding can fade over time... but not always.
🌙 Alphas and Omegas are both sensitive to and emit pheromones. These scent signals can trigger instinctive responses—arousal, submission, aggression, or protection. Betas can’t smell them.

Pheromones

Pheromone blockers exist and are commonly used in neutral zones, especially by unbonded Omegas. These pills or patches suppress scent, heat symptoms, and even hormonal cycles—giving the user more autonomy and peace of mind in mixed territory.🌙 Blockers aren’t perfect. A strong enough trigger—like a bonded partner, a powerful rut, or an unplanned heat—can override them.
🌙 Some packs forbid their use entirely, claiming they go against nature, tradition, or pack unity.
🌙 Prolonged blocker use can have emotional or physical side effects, particularly for omegas. The longer a wolf goes without releasing their scent, the more intense their instincts can rebound.

Pairings & Compatibility

Alpha x Omega

🌙 Biologically ideal. This pairing yields the only chance of producing an omega offspring.
🌙 Considered the “gold standard” of reproduction by traditionalist councils.
🌙 Strong scent bonds form here—and often end in obsession.

Omega x Beta

🌙 Biologically incompatible. No pregnancy or offspring possible
🌙 Intimacy can occur, but it’s not considered socially acceptable—Omegas are reserved for Alpha bloodlines.
🌙 Any such connection would be deeply taboo, especially for bonded Omegas.

Beta x Alpha

🌙 Biologically possible. Betas cannot impregnate Alphas, but an Alpha can impregnate a Beta.
🌙 Almost always results in Beta offspring, with the occasional Alpha birth.
🌙 Seen as a "settling" option, especially for alphas who never earn a bond with an Omega.

Alpha x Alpha

🌙 Biologically incompatible. No pregnancy or offspring possible.
🌙 Alphas do not possess a vagina or uterus.
🌙 Politically delicate. Often frowned upon by traditionalists.

Beta x Beta

🌙 Biologically incompatible. No pregnancy or offspring possible.
🌙 This is a common pairing among betas, especially for those living hidden amongst humans.
🌙 Most beta children come from alpha x beta pairings.

Omega x Omega

🌙 Biologically incompatible. No pregnancy or offspring possible.
🌙 Considered the most forbidden of all, not because it’s dangerous, but because it undermines legacy.
🌙 Omega pairings would live a life of secrecy and likely flee for survival.

The High Council

In Lunar Reign, the country is divided into five distinct territories and lead by a ruling Alpha Regent and her bonded Omega Consort. The High Council consists of the five bonded pairs that lead each territory. They are equals in title but far from equals in power, influence, or respect.
They meet twice a year in the Central Territory, once in midsummer and once in midwinter. Emergency summits can be called by any bonded pair, but they must be seconded by at least one other.
Meetings last one week, involving policy discussions, scent pacts, private negotiations, and public addresses.

Council Rules & Traditions

🌙 Each bonded pair gets one vote, but can split their vote if they disagree—this happens rarely and is seen as a sign of internal weakness.
🌙 They each bring three enforcers or advisors, chosen at will. This is unspoken strategy—you bring wolves who send a message.❯❯❯❯ East bringing an Omega enforcer is a big “fuck you” to the South’s breeding-only ideology.
❯❯❯❯ West brings at least one combat-trained Alpha who never speaks—just watches. A warning.
❯❯❯❯ Central rotates theirs depending on the issue, usually Beta officials or “cleaners.”
🌙 Council oaths are scent-bound, meaning you physically scent-swear to your vote. Backing out later isn’t illegal—but it is political suicide.

In Lunar Reign, the country is divided into five territories: North, West, Central, East, and South. Werewolves don’t answer to presidents or parliaments. They answer to power. To scents. To the bonded pairs who rule each of the territories with instinct and strategy—an Alpha Regent and her bonded Omega Consort, equal in title, different in purpose.Each territory is a sovereign domain, guided by its bonded rulers and protected by elite bloodlines—ancient families who have produced Omegas for generations and remain the backbone of werewolf society. These families are the only known source of natural-born Omegas, making them both revered and tightly controlled. Their loyalty isn’t optional.

At the heart of every territory lies its main compound—a heavily-guarded estate where the ruling pair lives with their children and heirs, surrounded by a cluster of manors for the elite. Dozens more smaller compounds stretch across the territory, housing lesser packs, enforcers, and bonded wolves with strategic roles. These estates are hidden from humans, masked by illusion, rumor, or isolation—and no outsider finds them without permission.Each territory has its own laws, temperament, and culture. Some are cold and repressive, others wild and lush. But all answer—loosely—to the High Council, a rare gathering of the five ruling pairs. At the center of it all, lies the Central Territory, where Rogues walk a thin line between freedom and death.

The North is the oldest and most isolated of the five territories—vast, mountainous, and smothered in snow for most of the year. Towering evergreens and jagged peaks bury its secrets deep beneath ice and fog, with only twelve short weeks of thaw before the Long Winter returns.Travel here is dangerous. Outsiders fear it. Locals depend on ancient trails, sled paths, and weather-hardened instincts to navigate it. Once winter sets in, the roads vanish, and no one gets in or out—especially not with Omegas.But the wolves here were built for this place. They don’t just endure the cold—they thrive in it.

⌂ Howl’s Hold: The Heart of the North

Tucked high in a hidden mountain range, Howl’s Hold is more than an estate—it’s an ancestral stronghold, a secure compound, and a fortress of legacy. When Northerners say “the Hold,” they mean the entire compound: the ancient main estate, its surrounding manors, and the private lands fenced off from the outside world.🌙 The Main Estate
At the center lies the ruling family's domain—home to the Alpha Regent and her bonded Omega Consort, as well as their adult children, advisors, and chosen guards. The estate is massive, carved partially into stone and partially rising above it, built to withstand avalanches, enemies, and time itself. Its halls are scent-warded. These settlements act as satellite watchpoints, each connected to the Hold by messenger wolves and encrypted paths.But most Betas live among humans—embedded in mining towns, isolated cabins, and cold-weather cities.
